Service to the Poor is a Service to Jesus – Matthew 25:43-45 ‘I was a stranger, and you didn’t invite me into your home. I was naked, and you didn’t give me clothing. I was sick and in prison, and you didn’t visit me.’ “Then they will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?’ “And he will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.’ 2. Pressed down, shaken together, running over – Luke 6: 38 ‘Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.’ 3. Sincere Giving, Genuine attitude – James 2:15-16 ‘Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?’ 7. The Example of Paul in Giving – Acts 20:35 ‘And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” 8. Radical Giving – Luke 18:22 ‘When Jesus heard his answer, he said, “There is still one thing you haven’t done. Now, not tomorrow, is the time to help – Proverbs 3:27-28 ‘Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them.
